Viktoria Skeie is Operations Manager for Adult Psychiatric Operations in NU Healthcare.

For Ttela, he affirms that both the number of places of attention in psychiatry and the influx to the psychiatric clinic were approximately at the same levels this year as at the beginning of this year, but that you can see that the number of patients treated under the Law of Compulsory Psychiatric Care (LPT) increased during the pandemic.

“In worse shape”

According to the newspaper, which compared the period from March to July this year with the same period last year, the number of care certificates has doubled.

– We believe this is a measure that patients have gone too long without seeking care. These patients had probably applied anyway, but they are in worse condition than they could have been under normal circumstances, Viktoria Skeie tells Ttela.

She emphasizes the importance of seeking help, even in these times of pandemics.

– Patients with different types of psychiatric illnesses naturally get sick in different ways, when we end up in the middle of a pandemic. Some have made their illness worse and we as a company are concerned that patients who should seek care will not. It’s important not to go home and get so bad, says Viktoria Skeie to Ttela.

Department had to close

Recently, Näl psychiatric ward 64 had to be closed due to the spread of covid-19.

Then, asymptomatic personnel would also be tested.

– We don’t know where the infection comes from. Currently we have a great spread of the infection both in society and in our area. Although we do our best with strict hygiene routines and stay home in case of symptoms, unfortunately some people can be symptom free and still be infected, Viktoria Skeie told Ttela.
