The horror game that initially mocked the Chinese president was shaken.
The week after the launch of the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 It hasn’t been easy for CD Projekt Red, but CD Projekt has sparked controversy elsewhere as well. I mean, they run the GOG digital game store, like yesterday would do they have started selling the horror game Devotion.
However, via Twitter, GOG announced a few days ago that this would not be the case, as they received “a lot of messages from players”, most likely related to the controversy from China that the game generated when it was initially launched in 2019.
It’s all based on a poster discovered in the game after launch that referred to the president of China and a certain yellow bear who likes to tease. This upset many and the game was bombarded until Taiwanese developer Red Candle (alternatively the publisher of the game) removed it from Steam to “fix the bug” but never came back.
However, GOG’s decision is not taken lightly, and there is now criticism on Twitter from people who believe that CD Projekt is caving in so as not to damage its presence in the Chinese market.
