Approval of the Pfizer vaccine is expected in Sweden on December 22.

If all goes well, the first transports of the vaccine will begin on Christmas Eve.

– The vaccine will be delivered in trucks escorted by the police, says vaccine coordinator Richard Bergström.

In just under a year, a vaccine against covid-19 was developed. And soon the trucks begin to roll out with the first valuable doses.

The EU meeting on the approval of the Pfizer vaccine was previously scheduled to take place on December 23, but it has now been moved forward one day and will therefore be held on December 22.

– When the vaccine is packaged with a leaflet, etc., it will be shipped on Christmas Eve.

The vaccine will reach its final destination on December 26 and the regions can choose to start vaccinating the next day.

– But it depends on each region. Vaccinations can probably be expected to start on Dec. 27, 28, or 29, says the vaccine coordinator.

“Very limited volume”

The first doses that arrive in December will go to the elderly in special homes.

– It is a very limited volume that is close to 10,000 doses. But here it follows the recommendations of the Swedish Public Health Agency on priority groups.

In the first delivery, all EU countries receive 9,750 doses each.

– But then there will be more justice immediately after, says Bergström.
