In 1729, Jonathan Swift wrote his bloody satire “An Unpretentious Proposal” on the famine in Ireland and the large number of starving children. He presented the insane arrogant suggestion that the poor could sell their children as food for the rich; so that the famine is solved for both parties.
The same drastic irony is rare in our time. However, during the crown I have heard people say that the high death rate in nursing homes is probably due to euthanasia; for you to solve the problem with the old and unproductive. That the idea is entirely conceivable has, I imagine, to do with the constant erosion of human dignity.
In our country fully regulated It is not uncommon for human dignity to be threatened by bureaucratic decisions designed to do justice. Only those who adhere to the strict rules of the Riksdag and the Swedish Immigration Board can stay. The right of asylum is protected, it is claimed, by not allowing deviations. This is also where the restrictions of the new legislation lead. No more “painful reasons” in law.
The tightening was caused by panic after the wave of asylum seekers in 2015. At that time, large numbers of unaccompanied minors arrived in Sweden, many were teenagers, and the majority originally came from Afghanistan. All received an individual test. Some were granted residence permits, others were deported. The so-called high school law postponed deportation for some. Experts have judged individual age assessments to be unscientific, capricious, and arbitrary.
It is striking how Sweden sweats to get rid of these people. Giant costs for chartered planes with staff (you pay the sums). There have certainly been protests against deportations (Swedish-speaking after the years here) to a country marked by disintegration, violence and war. Given the arbitrary results of the immigration authorities, and knowing that deportees often have no families in Afghanistan (they have been killed or have fled to other countries), calls have been made to the government and parliament to find a humanitarian solution. Amnesty has been demanded for those who have been here for more than a year and have not committed any crime.
There are many good reasons to see the group of unaccompanied minors as special cases and to grant amnesty. They often have nothing to return to: many have barely set foot in the country to which they are deported, but have already fled countries like Iran. Many belong to a persecuted minority, the Hazaras, in Afghanistan. Now they will be forced to separate from their Swedish relatives.
Also: Repeating something like this is unthinkable. Therefore, an amnesty does not threaten to set a precedent. The new legislation effectively puts an end to this. Therefore, this group does not have the so-called attraction effect. But our political leadership lacks the courage to make such an independent decision as amnesty. Instead, we must live with this moral tumor. Witness the high suicide rates. See how more and more people are fleeing to other countries for their lives. (Regarding the withdrawal of France to go into exile in Afghanistan).
And the profit? The only benefit for Sweden is political, symbolic and opportunistic. To keep nervous national opinion at bay. Eroding human dignity and undermining the right to asylum, in Sweden and in the world, is bad. They are here. They’ve been here a long time. Boards are granted amnesty. So that they can become normal people. May Sweden remain a decent country. The last deportation, on December 15, was postponed. The next deportation is postponed until December 22. We should, at least, with self respect, pay attention to what is happening.
