William Poromaa was the fastest of the Swedes in Östersund.

The 19-year-old junior beat the rest of the national team drivers in the classic-style internal competition of more than 15 kilometers with a margin of victory of 21.6 seconds.

– If someone had said that beforehand, I would have been satisfied, says William Poromaa.

William Poromaa impressed with being strong at distance and a tactically well executed run.

– It was better than I thought. There has been a lot of training now and I really didn’t know how the body would respond. But I was able to keep a steady pace and even increase a bit at the end, the 19-year-old tells Sportbladet.

Again show that you are strong during the second half of the race …

– In relation to others, I know that in the end I can do a lot. Mentally it’s nice to take it with you to races

Disappointment for Halfvarsson

The margin of victory for second Björn Sandström was 21.6 seconds. Marcus Ruus finished third and Calle Halfvarsson finished fourth after riding better towards the end.

– It wasn’t a big deal, it wasn’t a good day. I did not have a good feeling from start to finish, it is clear that I am disappointed. I wanted to start offensively, but didn’t keep up and finished far behind, says Calle Halfvarsson.

William Poromaa was much happier after the race.

– If someone had said that beforehand, I would have been satisfied. It’s always fun to be on top of the podium. Now I know that the training I did over the summer and fall has worked.

Two of the biggest names in the national team were missing from the race, neither Johan Häggström nor Jens Burman made it to the start.

While waiting for the Swedish participation in the Tour de Ski, the national team prepares for an internal competition in Östersund. William Poromaa aims to participate in all the races during the weekend.

– I think it’s good to exercise before the tour. Then there will be many races in a row, says the 19-year-old.

Sportbladet broadcasts all men’s and women’s races Thursday through Sunday.
