Peter Eriksson of the Green Party resigns as minister.
– I have completed my military service and have played the fool, says Eriksson during a press conference.
Peter Eriksson (MP) leaves the government. During a digital press conference today, he announced his resignation.
He begins by saying that he himself coined the term “the red-greens.”
– When Aftonbladet looked for a name for the new government alternative, I coined that expression, says Eriksson.
Peter Eriksson was a spokesperson for the Green Party along with Maria Wetterstrand between 2002 and 2011.
On May 25, 2016, Eriksson was appointed Minister of Housing and Digitization in the Löfven government. Since January 2019 he has been Minister of Development Aid.
– I never had the hope of becoming a minister of this government myself. But I said yes when the crisis was at the door in 2016. I previously decided that I did my last electoral campaign. Now is the time to stop when there will soon be a new spokesperson and a government shakeup, says Eriksson.
Describe working as a politician as meaningful community service.
– I have completed my military service and I have ruined, says Eriksson.
It is not yet clear what Peter Eriksson will do after leaving office.
– I’ll take some time to think about what I should do. I have nothing planned.
According to him, the decision is not due to the fall of the figures in the opinion polls of the Green Party.
