But since last Saturday, the decision has hardened and the management has gone one step further.

Close departments

– With the pandemic as a cause, we closed open clinics and some investigations in hospitals and transferred staff to hospital care where the need is great, says Per Albertsson, coordinator of SU’s pandemic group.

What kind of department is this?

– It can be, for example, a medical department where referrals and follow-up visits have to wait. Of course, space is given to the urgent need for attention.

How many employees does it apply to?

– I do not have an exact figure, but there are a significant number of nursing assistants, nurses and doctors. Some of the transfers have already been made and in a short time we have created 28 new places for hospital care, as well as a dozen new places for other care.

Have you received any feedback from employees?

– No more than everyone noticing the very worrying situation and doing what they can to help. Just work where the need is greatest, says Per Albertsson.

New decision in early January

The decision is valid until week one, after which a new decision is made regarding the care situation.

On Wednesday, a record number of covid patients was treated in the region: 412 people, of which 41 were in the intensive care unit, IVA.

147 people were served at the UB, 19 of them in VAT.

– The situation is very serious and may get worse. We’ve had a heavy workload on staff for a long time and we need all the strength we can. The staff who are now being relocated and assigned other duties are highly competent and have experience in both hospital and outpatient care, says Per Albertsson.

He emphasizes that it is extremely important to reduce the spread of infection in society and that everyone should help.

– Forget that this will be any Christmas, ignore going shopping and buying Christmas gifts and keep your distance, he emphasizes.
