One summer day, several of Wayne Gretzky’s old clubs, sweaters, and gloves disappeared.
Now the police have found the thief.
A friend of the family is said to have stolen the items worth five million crowns.
The 1997 All-Star Shirt. A 1983-84 Hart Trophy plaque. Several signed clubs.
These were some of the things that were missing this summer, after a burglary at a home where Wayne Gretzky’s grew up in Brantford, Canada. All in all, the things should have had a market value of five million crowns, writes The Hamilton Spectator.
After extensive police work, the house was searched at five addresses in Ontario and Alberta. In one place were most of the stolen goods, which while waiting to be returned are with the police as evidence.
“The police were fantastic”
Suspicions are now directed at a middle-aged man who is well known to “The Great One” and his relatives.
“A family friend used his trust,” police officer Keith Tollar told the newspaper.
Customs clarifies that it was not necessary to break locks and that no one was injured during the robberies. The thief was so close to the family that it was not necessary.
– The police were amazing. It’s not easy being a cop, with all the stress that goes into it, but they were amazing, “Glen Gretzky, Wayne’s brother, told The Hamilton Spectator.
