Gianni Antetokounmpo’s career can be described as a kind of Cinderella story.
His parents left Lagos in Nigeria for Athens and Greece in 1991. But although Giannis, as he is often called, was born in Greece, he did not receive Greek citizenship until he was 18 years old. Since he also lacked Nigerian citizenship, until then he was stateless.
