Can urban green spaces help our mental health when there is a crisis, like the corona pandemic? This is one of the questions that MSB and the State Research Council for Sustainable Development are seeking answers to. Stock Photography.
How can Sweden’s capacity to handle crises be improved? Various research projects will help answer that question. The starting point is, of course, the crown pandemic and its effects on society.
It is the Swedish Civil Protection and Emergency Planning Agency (MSB) and the State Research Council for Sustainable Development (Forms) which together allocate SEK 20 million to crisis research. The initiative is called “pandemic emergency response.”
“It is quite unique to start so many research projects during an ongoing crisis,” says Sara Brunnberg, MSB’s head of research, in a press release.
The topics of the different research projects will be very varied. Some questions you want to answer are:
* What can covid-19 teach us about protecting already vulnerable groups in a crisis?
* Who can you trust when it comes to managing covid-19?
* How should state support for crises be better distributed to have an effect?
* Can a crisis change a great social system like the transportation system?
* How do home offices affect municipal waste management?
* Can green spaces in the city protect against mental stress?
* The idea is that each research project has a maximum duration of one year.
