– It is a very small company, but it certainly seems very exotic to the rest of the world, says Erik Nissen Johansen.
Until last summer, the new owners announced that they intended to open for the night in the former residence of four teachers. It had been abandoned since the lighthouse keeper’s family left the island in 1977, when the lighthouse was automated.

– It’s almost surprising that we win this award. It is a sign of the times that such an inaccessible, weather-beaten and sterile place surpasses traditional luxury, he says.
The award was presented at the Gold Key Awards gala on Monday night.
An underdog on the horizon
– I think the word luxury has changed. I think it is the spirit of the times that is surely reinforced by the pandemic. It is easier to like the underdog and the little house of four masters in the middle of the horizon. That’s why we fell in love with Pater Noster as a project to grasp, renew and tell history, says Erik Nissen Johansen.
They have decorated Pater Noster as if the family lived there, and have bought used furniture in Bohuslän to create a royal feel and mixed it with modern art and old maps. The entire timeline from the 19th century to the present.
– We wanted to restore the lighthouse keeper’s house, so you can feel what it is like to live in the conditions of the small island. And eat fish like fish caught in the sea. And lobster, seaweed, and crab. Guests can bring out their own food and then cook it, says Erik Nissen Johansen.

Pater Noster’s hotel has come under a lot of international pressure in the last six months.
– This meant that we were called by the Oscars to ask if we wanted to be included as a gift card for the categories of nominated actors. That list will be published in mid-January and then they will receive a personal invitation. It is very curious that they ask us, because there are many hotels in the world, says Erik Nissen Johansen.
And he’s also very happy that they won first prize at the Gold Key Awards in the Judges so cool category.
– The judges have been very surprised. And it’s great that they understood the greatness we feel when we take it on, he says.
