CNN and the Bellingcat research site have mapped the elite group within the FSB that is linked to the poisoning of opponents of the regime.
The survey shows that the group has followed Alexei Navalyj in at least 17 different cities since 2017 and followed him in the footsteps of more than 30 round trips that the regime critic made to the capital Moscow during the same time period. .
Doctors and nurses are included in the group.
There will be up to ten members who are between just under 40 and nearly 50 years old. The group will specialize in poisons and neurotoxins and will be based in a concrete complex on the outskirts of Moscow.
The group includes doctors, toxicologists and paramedics, reports CNN, which publishes the names and photos of several of the designated members.
CNN met with Navalny at a secret location in Germany, where he is still recovering from life or death after the poisoning, and showed photos of the group’s members.
Navalny’s reaction: “Totally terrifying”
Navalny didn’t recognize any of the people, but reacted strongly when the scope of the way the group notched his heel became clear to him.
“It’s completely terrifying,” he told CNN.
To help them, CNN and Bellingcat have taken pictures of the team members and have also been able to track their movement patterns with the help of their thousands of call lists, flight reservations and other documents.
Although considered an elite group, members have only recently started using so-called “burner phones” which are thrown away after use to make it difficult to follow. Several of them have also traveled with their real names, used the previous surnames of their wives or have been content to change their birth dates for a few years.
