The quarter-finals were drawn today at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. Giorgio Machetti handled the procedure with the help, among others, of former Swiss national team player Stéphane Chapuisat, winner of the Champions League with Dortmund in 1997.
Chapuisat took out several goodies.
Three Swedish players, and Henrik Larsson as Ronald Koeman’s assistant coach in Barcelona, remain in the tournament, which resumes in mid-February.
Emil Forsberg’s Leipzig, a semi-finalist this summer, will face six-time winner Liverpool.
Dejan Kulusevski and his Juventus face Porto and Borussia Mönchengladbach, the patron of Oscar Wendt, face Manchester City.
Larsson’s Barcelona drew against Paris SG.
Reigning champions Bayern Munich start the playoffs against Lazio, the Italian club furthest from the group stage for the first time in 20 years.
