The appeal of politics is unknown

One of the effects of the pandemic year has been to show the small margins to which we have become accustomed in our lives.

This is a leader who expresses the political line of Smålandsposten: for Christian values, conservative ideology in conjunction with the liberal tradition of ideas and for the preservation of business freedom and property rights. The political etiquette of the newspaper is moderate.

Households, businesses and other players were quick to turn their expectations into politics for help when the crisis hit. This applies both to the banks that guarantee global transport chains and to the municipalities of our country. And, of course, the decision makers are the ones who decide whether to use the common pools or not. There are many signs that the economic crisis would have accelerated if politicians at various levels had not agreed to open the coffins in April.

But it is not politics that will end the crisis. Health and researchers will be held accountable for this achievement when safe vaccines can be distributed to the population.

The Tenants Association also appears to have taken refuge in politics to get help. According to Sveriges Allmännytta CEO Anders Nordstrand, the association in several places has urged its members to contact politicians so they can push the issue of stopping the rental negotiations. The situation is so frustrating that he wrote a discussion article, Dagens Samhälle (11/12) to recall the agreement for the rental negotiations: it should not be in the hands of politicians, but negotiated locally between the Tenants Association and the rental company. public services.

In Växjö, the Tenants Association wrote an open letter to Växjöbostäder in early October asking that the agreement agreed to last year could be deviated. These are rent increases of between one hundred and fifty to two hundred and fifty crowns per month. René Jaramillo (M), who is president of Växjöbostäder, then emphasized that they have the same tools as before to help tenants who are having difficulty paying their rent and who are not interested in breaking the agreement.

He, like the Tenants Association, is aware of how difficult it is to reach an agreement. This is also reflected in the fact that the agreement was drawn up in two years. If you cannot reach an agreement, the discussion can be dragged to the Rental Board and remain there indefinitely.

Currently there is a serious spread of the infection in much of the country. But progress in vaccine development gives hope that 2021 will be a more common year. When the crisis ends, we should all review whether it is possible to take steps to increase our independence.

In planning for total defense, healthy citizens are now expected to be able to manage themselves for a week. Until 2017, the deadline was three days. One should think in the same way when faced with political dependence, both as a private person and as a social actor. Most people can take some action to be less affected by the actions and decisions of politicians.

The tenant association’s call on politicians to get involved in renting could make things easier for people now. But the price would be to open up to interventions of another kind in the future: it promises the future for a short-term profit.

Crisis policy is extremely expensive and it is important to eliminate it as soon as possible. That is, when companies that depend on physical meetings can return to operating normally. After that, it’s time to think about how to become less dependent on policy fluctuations.
