Success in the Europa League but in the Premier League, Arsenal’s crisis is getting deeper and deeper.

At home against last team Burnley, they racked up their seventh loss in twelve games after Granit Xhaka pulled a red card less than an hour into the game.

Xhaka first defeated opponent Dwight McNeil before fighting Burnley’s player. Several players rushed into the fight and a riot broke out where Xhaka grabbed McNeil’s neck.

With the VAR chamber in their aid, Judge Graham Scott opted to show Granit Xhaka the red card.

Granit Xhaka sent off against Burnley

– You have the ability to end up in such situations sometimes, Xhaka. And sometimes it can be an understatement, says commentator Anders Bjuhr on Viaplay.

The expulsion comes few rounds after Nicolas Pépé was sent off for baldness.

– It puts your team in a situation that they have barely tried, completely unnecessarily, says Anders Bjuhr.

After the red card, Arsenal lost. After 73 minutes, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent the corner kick to the right of Eduardo Alonso, who headed hard over the goalkeeper.

“I have too many opportunities”

The result means that Arsenal have 13 points from 12 games for their 15th place in the Premier League.

– We completely dominated from the beginning until Granit Xhaka was shown. We created all the opportunities, we pushed and the attitude of all the players was fantastic. Sometimes we play very well, coach Mikel Arteta tells the BBC after the game.

– We know this is unacceptable and the situation we are in now is even worse, says Arteta about Xhaka’s red card.

Viaplay’s guest expert, Cincinnati midfielder Tom Pettersson, agrees.

– This is not the first time he has put the team in the shit. You should be one of the leading players on this team and lead by example. But he has shown too many times that he is not that player, he is not in balance. I think they would have fired him a long time ago, says Pettersson.

– I think you’ve been given too many chances.

Burnley crosses the qualifying line in the Premier League and has nine points in seventeenth place.
