Dutch national team striker Quincy Promes, 28, was arrested by police on Sunday morning, police spokesman Jelmer Geerd confirmed to De Telegraaf.
The forward is suspected of being involved in a stabbing at a party in July when a family member of Promes was seriously injured. However, the incident should not have been reported until last month.
Police are silent on the arrest record.
– An investigation was launched a month ago and this morning led to an arrest, Geerd told the newspaper.
Scorer on Saturday night
Promes played 90 minutes for Ajax in the team’s 4-0 win against Zwolle on Saturday night, where he scored a goal. The goal was his fifth in the league this season.
The attacker is now at risk of being detained for three days before further decisions about arrest need to be made. If Promes is convicted at a later stage, he risks up to four years in prison.
Quincy Promes has scored seven goals in 44 international appearances for the Netherlands.
