When Matías Varela recorded his first science fiction series, he did so with a director “from another era.” Ridley Scott is behind HBO’s “Raised by wolves.”

Somewhere in the future, a war between believers and atheists has destroyed all life on earth. Two androids are sent to the planet Kepler-22b to raise the last atheist children in the world, while the religious after the victory in the war have left in a great spaceship.
Matias Varela plays one of the believing soldiers in Ridley Scott’s new production, a soldier who must fight against androids in the name of religion. He describes the director of “Alien” as an idol and hero since childhood.
– He feels like a tycoon, like a boss from another era. My experience is that you don’t work as much with him as with him, if that says something, says Matías Varela.
American screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski is behind the story.
– I definitely think it has been influenced by how the world looks today. So you may have taken a fateful and dystopian view of the whole thing, which Ridley has embarked on. You should always find a ton of contemporary art in good art, says Matías Varela.
He had previously appeared in action movies like “Assassin’s Creed” and “Point Break,” but this is Varela’s first science fiction role. Much of the preparation consisted of preparing for the genre itself.
– It’s science fiction – Will you stand in front of a green wall and pretend that a tennis ball is a monster? You don’t know until you get there, says Matías Varela.
But the recording turned out to be the exact opposite of Matías Varela’s fears. At the site in South Africa, the production built real and luxurious buildings instead of green screens, during a normal working day up to 1000 people could work.
– When there is a fire in an episode, they set fire to all the fucking shit to take those photos, it is not to pretend that, says Matías Varela.
In a month he will return to South Africa to record the second season of the series.
– I’m very happy that they seem to be satisfied with my effort, I can do quite a few things that are very playable in the second season, he says.
But he doesn’t want to get into what happens next season.
– No, then I’ll probably get fired, they are all interchangeable!
“Raised by wolves” premieres December 16 on HBO Nordic.

“Raised by Wolves” is an American television series created by Aaron Guzikowski. The first two episodes were directed by Ridley Scott, who also produces the series.
The series takes place on the planet Kepler-22b, where two androids are tasked with raising the last of the atheist children, after the earth was destroyed in a religious war.
The roles include Amanda Collin, Abubakar Salim, Winta McGrath, Travis Fimmel, Niamh Algar, and Matias Varela.
The series will air on HBO Nordic on December 16.
