For most of Saturday, thousands of people demonstrated across the United States. In most places, the demonstrations are said to have gone smoothly, but when darkness fell over Washington DC, the US media reported that several riots broke out in the capital.

According to the Washington Post, early in the evening, police managed to keep Trump supporters and their opponents separate, but both sides have become increasingly aggressive.

The city’s chief of police, Peter Newsham, told the newspaper that every time the police took control of a situation, there was an alarm about riots elsewhere.

– We do the best we can, he says.

At midnight local time, four people had been taken to the hospital after being stabbed. At the time it was still unclear how serious the injuries were. The police had arrested about 25 people.

The demonstrations come the day after the Supreme Court ruled to dismiss the attempt by the state of Texas to nullify tens of millions of votes in four other states and, in effect, break the election result.

Minor disturbances were also reported elsewhere, in Washington state, Olympia state, one person was injured in a shooting. There is no information on the damage situation caused by the shooting and the alleged shooter and two others have been arrested in connection with the riots.

President Trump himself drew attention to the demonstrations on Twitter and called the protesters patriots. In the afternoon, he flew by helicopter with thousands of cheering fans in Washington.
