The Lucia train from Hvitfeldtska musikgymnasiet is an annual tradition in Gothenburg. In 2019, they held around 80 performances over just over two weeks in the city with a final at the Johanneberg church.

This year, he came close to not getting rid of it, unless three motivated students in the third year found a solution.

– From the beginning, it was planned that we would do as usual and divide the two grades into four groups. But with the new restrictions, our teacher wanted us to quit, before three of the class found this solution, says third-year Ella Lindström at Hvitfeldtska Music High School.

This year, the 60 students in the third year have been divided into smaller groups of a maximum of 8-9 people who go to various nursing homes and apartment areas in Gothenburg to rest in the fresh air.

When they move around Gothenburg, they also try not to use public transport. Some take the bike instead, while others are driven around town by car.

– We compiled a list of possible means of transport besides public transport with everything from horses to voi, says Ella Lindström.

People think it is very important, especially in nursing homes.

The Hvitfeldtska students are very happy that it has finally been possible to make the Lucia trains again this year.

– We think it feels very important this year. It means a lot to them, especially now that they don’t do much else, says Ella Lindström.

They have not been able to speak to the people in the nursing homes, but have received feedback from the staff working there:

– People think it is very important, especially in nursing homes, says Ella Lindström.

Witty class

GP wrote about the class in Hvitfeldtska as early as this spring. Then they moved on to the second year and surprised all three when they ran off with 174 cardboard figures dressed in clothes and with pasted photos of students and teachers at school.

Ella Lindström was one of the students who came up with the idea.

Are you a very resourceful class?

– Yes, but I’d like to say that. It’s important to do something now that this year has been like this, says Ella Lindström.
