There is a light in the darkness of December. Specifically some sunlight.

The Russian investment that has put Sweden in eternal gray darkness in recent weeks has started to move.

Looking forward to next weekend, those in the right part of the country will be able to see the sun again.

The weather has certainly not facilitated the darkest time of year. The last few weeks have offered very few hours of sunshine and some cities, such as Stockholm, Karlstad and Norrköping, have had zero hours of sunshine so far in December.

The culprit of the drama is the meteorological phenomenon. investment formed by high pressure from Russia. The air, which is usually quite high in the atmosphere, sinks to the ground and sits like a lid on the air close to the ground, retaining moisture, fog, and clouds.

Solchans next weekend

But now there are reports from Russia that the high pressure is wearing off. This is confirmed by Mikael Sjöstrand, meteorologist with the Klart.se meteorological service.

– Yes, that’s exactly what they say. The high pressure on Russia has been stable in the same place for a long time, but starts to move a little on Tuesday, Wednesday, he says.

Some cities, such as Stockholm, Karlstad and Norrköping, have had zero hours of sunshine so far in December.

But even if it declines over Russia, it will likely remain very cloudy over Sweden for much of next week, according to Sjöstrand. But before next weekend, the sun can look ahead over parts of the country.

– Then there will be more winds from the west and there will be greater chances of sunshine, says Mikael Sjöstrand.

No snow in sight for the next week, according to the forecast. At least not in the south of the country.

Clouds and rain in the forecast

The greatest chance of seeing the sun again is for residents of southern and central Norrland and for residents of the west coast from Bohuslän to Skåne.

– Along the west coast, it looks like it could be some day with a little less clouds. But this is very far in the future, so we have to wait and see, says Mikael Sjöstrand.

But over Stockholm and all of eastern Svealand, the sun seems to continue to shine in its absence for the whole of next week. There, the forecast is gray, gray and gray. And rain.

– Stockholm residents will probably have to put up with this time for the whole of next week. We’ll see if it can be changed, but it is more likely that there will be more clouds and more rain, says Mikael Sjöstrand.

Brighter after Christmas

There is no snow that can contribute to the light and the Christmas atmosphere is in sight in the next week, according to the forecast. At least not in the south of the country.

– They are still relatively mild temperatures for the season. In the south, it will be five to ten degrees and it will be more degrees in some parts of Norrland. But after next weekend, it looks like it will be a little brighter and a little cooler, says Mikael Sjöstrand.
