In September, Norway and the UK signed a bilateral fisheries agreement following Britain’s withdrawal from the EU. But before it takes effect, the Norwegians want a tripartite agreement with the UK and the EU.
Negotiations have yet to start but are delayed by the fact that there is no Brexit deal between the British and the EU. Fishing is one of the key topics in the latest conversations.
Now the Norwegian Fisheries Minister is threatening Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen to stop the other parties’ access to the country’s fishing waters, Reuters reports.
– If we do not have an agreement on January 1, we will not open Norway’s economic fishing zones to EU and UK vessels. Nor can we expect Norwegian ships to gain access to their zones before there is a deal, he says, referring to the EU and UK zones.

“Norway is ready to start talks so that we can agree on total quotas for our joint stocks in the North Sea. Our goal is to continue normally, but for that we need clarity, quickly, ”says Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen in a statement.
