Linn Grant, 21, sweeps the US Open.
The Swedish fan is second after halfway through the competition, and he’s not the least bit surprised.
– I know what I can do, he tells Sportbladet.
Linn Grant seems to have special ties to the US Open. Two years ago, she was tremendously involved in the battle for the lead after playing 36 holes. He was only 18 then and had his first big opening.
Now history repeats itself.
The 21-year-old from Viken in Northwest Skåne, who is still a hobbyist, plays great golf in Houston, Texas, and is currently second after two 69 consecutive rounds.
She is three strokes behind leader Hinako Shibuno (Japan).
– Yes, I’ve been good so far. You can’t really complain, she says when Sportbladet calls her on the phone at midnight Swedish time.
“Less surprised”
In the television interview with Viaplay after the round, Grant was asked if she was surprised. He then replied, with bubbling confidence in his voice, that:
– I’m probably the least surprised.
For Sportbladet, it develops:
– I know what I can and cannot do, what I’m good at and what I’m not good at. I guess it’s just that I haven’t had as many chances to show it off yet, says the 21-year-old.
When he had a dense 2018, he collapsed over the weekend. I should try to avoid that now.
– That time the thoughts left. There was a great commotion and I couldn’t bear it. But I have learned a lot since then.
How do you feel now about the resurrection?
– Well, it’s useful, so it’s something you have to chew on. At the same time, I think it’s the least fun. I am almost more nervous before a television interview than before the first result.
At the same time, is all the commotion proof that you play golf well?
– Absolutely, that’s it.
Lowered the entrance
Grant isn’t the only Swedish fan to impress. Maja Stark, 20, and Ingrid Lindblad, 20, have also taken the lead. Stark’s second round featured a mighty eagle on the sixth hole where the entrance dropped, from 121 meters.
– I didn’t see him come in, but I heard people start screaming. It was really nice to hear, says Stark on Viasat.
The US Open is the richest women’s golf tournament in money. The winner will receive $ 1 million, which corresponds to approximately SEK 8.5 million at the current exchange rate. Fans, however, cannot receive any prize money.
