The crimes, which began when the girl was one year old, were committed, among other things, when the man was taking care of the girl. He was convicted of 49 cases of aggravated child rape and 153 counts of aggravated child sexual abuse. The abuse, as the man admitted, lasted two years in a central Swedish city before the man could be arrested this spring.
In addition to the prison sentence, the man must pay approximately SEK 1.3 million in damages to the girl.
– The most remarkable thing about this verdict is the great damages. There is nothing like these amounts in practice since before. The practice has been halved, specialist prosecutor Annika Wennerström tells TV4 Nyheterna.
The verdict will be appealed because the man, according to his lawyer, believes the punishment is too severe.
