During the night until Friday of last week, Elin Jansson, 22, very pregnant, suspected her water had run out.
He woke up the cohabitant Erik Fredriksson, 25 years old.
The baby was scheduled for New Years Eve and the couple hadn’t had time to pack a garbage bag or write a birth certificate, something they broke amid Elin’s pains that grew more frequent and stronger. A letter that was later left unused in the car.
– After an hour, the matter was not discussed, it was the water that had gone and then there were three to four pains in ten minutes. When the pains started, it passed quickly, Elin says.
Stopped at the bus stop
When they called the delivery in the evening, they were given an appointment for a check-up in the morning, but they had to make the decision to leave earlier as they have about an hour and a half from their home in Bengtsfors to Näl in Trollhättan, about what Dalslänningen wrote earlier.
The couple sat in the car and it wasn’t long before the pains got worse and Elin screamed in pain. Erik called the delivery and was recommended to call 112.
– They asked if we could stay in a suitable place and then we were on the outskirts of Järbo and stopped at the bus stop. They sent two ambulances, one from Mellerud and the other from Uddevalla. The one who left Mellerud was 20 minutes away and Elin started to hurt a lot, he guided me at 112 and when the ambulance was ten minutes away I started to feel my head, says Erik.
“He fought against the clock”
The 20 minutes before the first ambulance arrived felt like an eternity for the couple.
– It felt like every minute was an eternity, so it felt significantly longer than 20 minutes, says Elin.
Elin was in the passenger seat when the agony began.
– We fought against the clock, I could have trembled more but I resisted. With three minutes to go, I started to relax, says Elin.
When the first of the ambulance nurses arrived at the car shortly before 6 a.m., Erik had time to say that Elin wanted painkillers, but that was exactly when Esther was born. Erik was ready to receive her.
– They come when I lie on the horn with a last crucifixion, says Elin with a laugh.
I didn’t think it was true
Then Elin and Esther had to go by ambulance to the drop-off location in Näl with Erik, who drove behind in the car quite shocked by what had just happened.
– We were together for a couple of hours in BB but then I had to leave. It was sad not to be a part of knowing that Elin was laying there alone for three days.
Now the whole family has been home since Monday and feels good.
They also have a very dramatic story to tell family and friends, so much so that Elin’s father thought they were joking.
– It was very fast and you had to tell this story to everyone. We had to send a picture of Elin and Esther for him to believe it, says Erik.
On the way home, they passed the stop.
– You have some flashbacks, says Elin.
– I was sick that I could go so fast.
