Don’t drive and avoid climbing mountains. Avoid all situations where you risk needing medical attention.
That request comes from the chief physician at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, where the care facilities will soon be completed.
– Now hangs by a fragile thread, he tells GP.
The care slots at Sahlgrenska University Hospital are starting to fill up at the same time that sick leave is high among hospital staff.
To lighten the load, Chief Medical Officer Thomas Brezicka now goes out with a call to the inhabitants of the region: avoid situations that may lead to the need for care that may require surgery or enter the intensive care unit, writes GP.
To the newspaper’s question on how to proceed, Brezicka replies:
– Not driving unnecessarily and exposing yourself to the risk of being involved in traffic accidents or not climbing mountains. All activities that run the risk of damaging the body, especially when it comes to trauma. don’t drive unnecessarily and avoid mountain climbing.
Residents should also be careful to follow general advice and recommendations, he says.

“Hangs by a fragile thread”
According to statistics from Region Västra Götaland, 313 patients admitted with covid-19 are now being cared for, of which 35 are being cared for in the intensive care unit. 113 of the patients are cared for in Sahlgrenska, 13 of them in intensive care.
There are fewer covid patients admitted now compared to last spring. But despite that, the hospital begins to reach its maximum capacity.
– We don’t have so many patients now in the covid flow. But now it is a different situation because we have an almost normal influx of patients without covid. We didn’t have that last spring. Also, we have a lot of staff who are sick and at home. There is a shortage of staff and there are no margins in the hospital. Hangs by a brittle thread, he tells GP.
Sahlgrenska’s assessment is that the number of patients admitted with covid will continue to increase in the coming weeks.

Residents of Västra Götaland are urged, among other things, not to drive unnecessarily.
