Fredrick Federley (C) MEP announced on Friday afternoon that he was leaving all political posts.
– There is no other way forward, says Dalarnas Tidningar.
Fredrick Federley has been on sick leave from his political assignments since late November after it emerged that he had been in a previous relationship with a person who had been convicted of serious sex crimes against children. Federley must have known the verdicts against the former partner for a long time.
– These are terrible crimes. I feel physically ill just thinking about it, Fredrick Federley tells the Dalarna newspapers.
Fredrick Federley himself recounts the decision to Dalarna newspapers and says he was unable to rest during his sick leave.
– You can’t defend yourself against this. It affects my family and my relatives. Then I realized that I am allowed to leave politics, says Fredrick Federley.
Annie Lööf: Sad
Center Party party leader Annie Lööf comments on the message as a wise decision to Dagens Nyheter.
“It is a wise decision for Fredrick Federley to leave his duties to focus fully on his health. What happened has caused enormous difficulties for Fredrick to continue with his current political assignments. It is a personal tragedy and it is tremendously sad,” he writes to the newspaper.
The Center Party has previously announced that trust in Fredrick Federly has been damaged, as he did not inform the party if he had known the judges against his ex-partner for a long time.
