According to the research, which is about the intensive care unit, it is difficult to assess the importance of the party for the spread of infection between staff and patients in October. There is no indication that any of the staff members had symptoms during the party, and the first of the staff to become ill had not attended the party.

One of the causes that is established

Based on the investigation, it is also not possible to determine to what extent the part contributed to the spread of the infection, but the part stands out in the investigation as one of the possible underlying causes.

– We had a calmer period this summer where consciousness may have decreased and people began to relax. The party was organized just as the great increase in infection arrived. With the results in hand, it was clearly inappropriate and I think we’ve all learned something from what happened, says the hospital’s manager, Maria Wiltz, in a press release.

A total of 10 patients and eleven of the ward staff were infected during the outbreak, which began on October 10. Four of the patients died. The Halloween party was held on October 23, amid the ongoing eruption.

A total of 50 infected

A total of four wards of the Växjö Central Hospital were analyzed. In these, just over 30 staff members and about 20 patients have fallen ill. A total of eight patients have died in the four wards.

The research highlights several reasons for the spread of the infection. These include protective equipment that may have been mishandled and personnel who went to work with diffuse symptoms and then tested positive.
