Police warn of deadly game

The phenomenon of “jumping” in vehicles is nothing new, but it has been around for at least 50 years.

It involves somehow getting stuck behind a vehicle you are driving, such as a moped, truck, or bus.

But the game is equally relevant among young people in 2020.

And now the police warn of the deadly trend.

– Often it is young people who put themselves in danger of death by taking trams and buses in this way. They run the risk of falling and being seriously injured or receiving an electric shock if they get too close to the wiring at the rear. It is a dangerous and absolutely deadly game, says Hans-Jörgen Ostler, press spokesman for the police.

Not only can physical injury have devastating consequences, but “teasing” is also punishable.

– There are several traffic law violations that could be considered. Theft is one, in the long run it could also be seen as a crime of negligence. You expose others to danger by driving like that, says Hans-Jörgen Ostler.

“Screaming like crazy, the bus didn’t stop”

One of those who has witnessed the phenomenon is Isabelle Knutsson. Last week, he was driving in Billdal when he caught two thieves in the picture.

– It was the first time I saw him. I went behind the bus and honked like crazy but it didn’t stop, she says.

Mette Ramquist, Västtrafik’s press director, also takes behavior very seriously.

– We take this very seriously. It is very dangerous and, in the worst case, someone can get very sick. I’d even say it’s life-threatening, he says.

According to Mette Ramquist, there are routines for how drivers should act if they encounter an “idiot.”

– They need to stop the bus, as in this case, immediately and call the traffic management so that no one is injured, says Mette Ramquist.
