Hunter Biden has reported that his tax affairs are being investigated by federal prosecutors in Delaware. The investigation, which is due to begin in late 2018, concerns the president’s tax affairs abroad, including China.
But now Politico sources say he is also being investigated by federal prosecutors in the southern district of New York. There, the securities fraud unit is responsible for reviewing finances, the site writes.
The source also says that investigators in Delaware and Washington as recently as last year investigated suspicions of money laundering related to Hunter Biden’s foreign affairs.
Investigation on Biden’s brother
Nor is the incoming president’s son the only one in the family who has caught the interest of prosecutors. He also has Joe Biden’s brother, James Biden.
The brother will be linked to an ongoing criminal investigation led by prosecutors in the Western District of Pennsylvania. It is a hospital business, and James Biden has been questioned about his role there, another source tells Politico.
The hospital in question is run by the Americore Health company. In late January, the FBI raided two of his Pennsylvania hospitals and seized several boxes.
The attacks must have occurred after a series of mismanagement alarms. Just a month earlier, Americore had filed for bankruptcy.
The promise of family
Joe Biden should not be linked to any of the investigations. He did not want to comment on the details of his son or brother.
However, the Bidens and Harris campaign issued a statement on Wednesday saying the Democrat is “deeply proud of his son, who has overcome difficult challenges, including malicious personal attacks in recent months.”
In an interview with CNN last week, Biden promised that his family would not be involved in any business that could create a conflict of interest with his role as president.
“My son, my family, will not be involved in any business, any business that is in conflict or appears to be in conflict, where there is an adequate distance between the presidency and the government,” Biden said.
