President Mats Engström:

– Kennet, like many others who have returned, has had a great heart for the association. No matter what role he has played, he has done his best for the association and has been a very loyal employee. It is just to wish you luck in your future assignments.

As a player, Kennet Andersson won the Swedish championship gold with IFK Gothenburg in both 1990 and 1991. In March 2018, he was elected to the association’s board of directors. A year later, he assumed the position of sports director.

He kept it until September of this year. Then Pontus replaced Farnerud, and Kennet Andersson got the title of advisor.

Maybe the plan was already then that he would go now?

– No I dont think so. But Kennet himself has to answer that. I don’t know when he made his decision, but no plans have been communicated, says President Mats Engström.

Has there been talk of him staying at the club?

– It is Kennet himself who has made this decision. He is the one who has chosen to move on. It is clear that there have been discussions, but I have not been involved, so I cannot answer that.

Why does Kennet want to leave?

– I do not know anymore that you want to move on to other challenges. You have to respect that.

Kennet Andersson himself has declined to comment on Thursday’s message.

On Instagram he writes: “Thank you for these years IFK Gothenburg. After another three years in the association, I have decided to move on to new challenges. I have put all my soul in the association during these years. Next year, hopefully, I’ll take a seat in the stands. I hope we succeed with the change and can push harder in the future. Thanks to all the fantastic people in the association and in Kamratgården! Frankly, very disappointed with the Allsvenskan season, but despite that we got another title. Forza IFK! ”.
