Western Sweden: here are the strongest bastions of covid-19

[ad_1]

Last week, 4,447 more cases of covid-19 were reported in Västra Götaland, an increase of 106 people compared to the previous week.

On Thursday, a death was reported in Västra Götaland, which now has a total of 1,066 deaths in covid-19.

– For some weeks we have been quite stable in terms of the number of new confirmed cases. But it has been high, with many new cases every week, says Thomas Wahlberg, infection control doctor in the Västra Götaland region and continues:

– First it is important to stop the rise and then it should turn downwards. But now it has settled on a plateau, at a high level. This is the case in many parts of the country. We need to turn this around. And there is only one way: that we all follow the advice.

Stenungsund rise

Skaraborg is still badly affected by the infection, but new areas have been obscured on the map of the number of patients in the region.

Stenungsund is one of the municipalities that had the most dramatic development in terms of infection between weeks 48 and 49, according to the latest figures from the weekly report from the Västra Götaland region.

There was an increase of 31 people, from 51 to 82 sick.

Mellerud and Alingsås also show a strong increase in the same period.

Alingsås had many new cases last week compared to the previous week. The number of infected people increased by 40 people, from 89 to 129.

Bengtsfors is the municipality with the highest number of cases per 10,000 inhabitants in the entire region according to the latest statistics. The figure is 47.

Borås has always been at a consistently high level.

– Up and down in different municipalities every week. If an outbreak occurs somewhere in a small municipality, for example in a workplace, a school or a nursing home, it affects the number greatly, says Thomas Wahlberg.

More cases in Dalsland

When the corona infection began to accelerate again in the fall, there were many cases in Gothenburg, in the surrounding municipalities and in Borås, Wahlberg explains.

Last week new cases of covid-19 were reported in all municipalities in the region.

– Recently more cases have appeared in Skaraborg and now we also see an increase in Dalsland which did not have as many cases this spring, says Thomas Wahlberg.

In recent weeks, the number of patients in nursing homes in the region has also risen steadily.

Covid-19 cases in nursing homes remained at a low level for a few months, but since the end of October there has been an increase, according to the weekly report from the Västra Götaland region.

Week 44 (from October 26 to November 1), the figure was just under 40 cases.

“It has increased with us”

In the city of Gothenburg, there were 73 infected people in elderly care on Thursday, which includes around 12,500 people.

– Last week we had 66 infected, so it has increased with us. We notice in business when there is further expansion of society, says Babbs Edberg, responsible for coordinating work on coronary heart disease in elderly care in Gothenburg.

She adds:

– We are concerned if there will be a continued increase and especially if it will go at a faster pace. At the same time, we have better knowledge and preparation than we did last spring. Most of all, the region makes incredibly important contributions to infection testing and tracking. That ability didn’t exist in the spring. It is our most important tool.
