The moderate government of the Skåne Region has not taken sufficient measures to ensure that people can travel safely by public transport. It is written by Tina Christensen, Kommunal, Ingvar Carlsson, Seko, and the two Social Democrats Elin Gustafsson and Andreas Schönström.
On behalf of the alliance, Skånetrafiken distributes mouth guards to passengers. But the fact is, the alliance slows touring so much that congestion becomes inevitable, the article’s authors write.

Despite the main responsibility Since public transport falls to the bourgeois government of the region, the government has given great support to public transport so that the supply of traffic can be maintained.
The Skåne region receives billions in both specific and general government subsidies that cover all increased costs caused by the pandemic, including public transportation. In total, the region receives approximately SEK 2.6 billion in government grants. The Alliance chooses to count only specific government subsidies for public transportation, even though there are additional government subsidies that will be used to cover reduced costs and revenues. The Social Democrats have demanded that the money be paid for operational activities, for example Skånetrafiken, but the alliance says no.
Carina Zachau and Lars Hansson avoid dealing with the dire situation that has arisen for those who are forced to travel by public transport and cannot be flexible working from home or choosing a different time for their trips. If the bourgeois government is fully aware of their situation, why has it not taken sufficient measures to ensure that they can travel safely?
Many commuters and employees still report congestion on public transportation and say they are concerned about getting infected.
In the name of the alliance Skånetrafiken distributes mouth guards to passengers. But the fact is that the alliance slows travel so much that congestion becomes inevitable. There are several hundred comments on Skånetrafiken’s social media from travelers urging Skånetrafiken to take responsibility and take more trips.
Carina Zachau and Lars Hansson note that the procurement policy of the Skåne Region was decided in 2018, when the Social Democrats ruled the Skåne Region. That is correct, and it is a good foundation. But by ignoring the situation, the current bourgeois government is contributing to planning – reducing working hours resulting in lower wages – and deteriorating conditions. Not the Social Democrats.
We propose that Skånetrafiken establish concrete requirements in bus and train traffic procurement with regard to safe working conditions and the right to full-time work. When the Skåne Region public transport board considers the proposal in February, the alliance will have a new opportunity to fill a position on the public transport staff. We hope the alliance takes it away. The pandemic shouldn’t justify wage dumping.
The bourgeois government in the Skåne region it chooses not to use the state subsidies the region has received and strives for the lowest tax in the country. At the same time, the Skåne Alliance continues to demand more money from the government for public transport that it has cut. Such action is neither reasonable nor responsible.
We defend safe and dignified conditions for public transport personnel and the right of all Skåne residents to functioning public transport both during and after the pandemic. We hope that the moderate government of the Skåne Region can join these priorities.
