The US space agency Nasa has selected Swedish-American astronaut Jessica Meir to be part of the Artemis lunar program, NASA writes on its website.
Meir is part of the group along with 17 other astronauts. However, it is not clear if she will be sent to the moon or if she will receive other information within the program.
The goal of the Artemis program is to get American astronauts to the moon in 2024, which would be the first time since 1972. NASA is also planning a space station in orbit around the moon.
Jessica Meir was born in 1977 in Caribou, Maine, USA Her mother is from Västerås and therefore has Swedish citizenship. His father is from Israel.
Meir was on the International Space Station ISS for a total of 205 days during 2019-2020. In relation to his stay in space, Meir said he dreams of going to the moon.
– I think it will be my new dream, Meir said during a videoconference from ISS.
