Joy has been prevalent in the UK since the country began mass vaccination against Covid-19 on Tuesday. At the same time, the British Medicines Agency (MHRA) is now asking people who have previously experienced severe allergic reactions to wait to take the syringe, after two healthcare professionals suffered allergic shock.
– This is a procedure that is common in relation to new vaccines, says the NHS medical director of the British health system Stephen Powis.
The two people have already recovered well.
The MHRA will now take a closer look at what happened. Pfizer and Germany’s Biontech, which developed the vaccine together with the US pharmaceutical giant, say they support the British research.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) and its US counterpart, the FDA, are expected to approve Pfizer’s vaccine in the coming weeks. According to Pfizer, people who had previously suffered severe reactions from phase 3 trials were excluded from the vaccine.
