Massive covid-19 testing began last week. The result so far: In five out of 12 households, at least one corona infection has been sent home, although it has not shown any symptoms, reports Swedish Radio.
– It is very serious that it is so widespread with infection without symptoms among those who work in these groups. I think this strongly suggests that we should also evaluate people without symptoms who work in the care of the elderly, says Stefan Amér from Familjeläkarna on the radio.
Stefan Amér leads the experiment in Stockholm and believes that rapid tests should also be carried out in elderly care in other regions.
The test consists partly of an antigen test that gives a response within 15 minutes, and partly of a PCR test that is analyzed in a laboratory.
DN reported in November that all staff at Stora Sköndal Foundation nursing homes since last spring have been offered to test for covid-19 at work in a study conducted by the Karolinska Institutet. On several occasions, health professionals who tested positive for COVID-19 have not shown any symptoms and have not felt ill.
