Celebrate Christmas with a few people – Radio Sweden in easy Swedish

At this time, local rules apply in all regions of Sweden. Starting December 14, the same rules will apply across the country. The rules are very similar to today, but a bit stricter. They clearly say that all people should do everything possible to reduce the risk of spreading the infection. And we will meet as few people as possible.

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven says everyone should follow this.

– This year we cannot celebrate with all the people with whom we want to celebrate. Because the coronavirus does not take into account our vacations. Now we have to be persistent, now we have to persevere, and that is your duty and mine, says Stefan Löfven.

The government and the Public Health Agency say that you should celebrate Christmas and other holidays in a small group. Preferably only with people we live with or with some other close people. If you meet a new person, it is better to be outdoors. If you want to be indoors, you have to prepare it carefully. So you shouldn’t meet other people the weeks before. And you have to keep your distance. This reduces the risk of infection. This is especially important for the elderly and others at risk.

It is preferable not to travel anywhere. If you have to travel, you must do it safely. For example, do not travel by train or bus where there are many people. You need to be able to isolate yourself and travel home safely if you start to get sick when you are away.

The situation with coronary heart disease is still seriously in Sweden. The virus continues to spread and more people become infected. A total of 7,200 corona-infected people have died. The public health authority says the infection may be stagnant now. This means that the number of infected people no longer increases. But that is not certain.

Deputy Prime Minister Isabella Lövin Urge everyone to think about their loved ones now, even if we cannot meet as usual. You can get in touch and have contact in other ways, he says.

– Of course, this does not mean that we should not worry about our loved ones. We all need to find new solutions. Maybe celebrate outdoors, in warm clothes and a roaring fire. Perhaps the whole family will be seen from north to south, at a joint digital party. Let the celebration focus less on stress and duties, and more on caring and community, says Isabella Lövin.
