The government and the regions have now agreed on how the mass vaccination of Swedes will proceed. They hope to vaccinate everyone in the risk group and everyone over 18 during the first half of 2021. Lena Hallengren calls the agreement historic and stated at a press conference that the state is responsible for the cost and regions of the implementation.
– The one who most needs to be vaccinated should also be vaccinated first, promised the Minister of Social Affairs.
It is expected to be after Christmas
The regions are ready, according to Marie Morell, president of the Swedish municipalities and regions, SKR, delegation of health care:
– Regions are ready to start vaccination as soon as the vaccine arrives. We hope it will be after the holidays.
The preparations have been made for a long time. These include logistics, storage, and equipment, as well as vaccination records and staff training.
– The regions have extensive vaccination experience, it is a main task that we have as every year, for example for seasonal flu. We have the competence and experience to handle vaccination programs in a patient-safe manner, said Marie Morell.
The state pays
The state contributes a total of SEK 9 billion to fund vaccination. Regions will receive 275 SEK per vaccine dose, if two doses per person are required it will be replaced by 550 SEK.
700 million SEK is paid to the regions so that they can vaccinate many in a short time, and another 400 million SEK (in addition to the 300 previously announced) for the preparations that the regions must make. Finally, the state pays 4,500 million for the purchase of vaccines.
He wants everyone to get vaccinated
The state and regions should also be helped to disseminate information and encourage the population to get vaccinated.
– We will reach the entire population with information and knowledge. We want as many people as possible to choose to get vaccinated. It is important to be able to stop the spread of the infection, Marie Morell said.
