On Tuesday morning, 288 people with covid-19 are treated in the hospital in the region, of which 32 are in the intensive care unit.

– Now it’s all about everyone persevering and persevering and together doing what they can to reduce the spread of the infection, so that fewer people get so sick that they need hospital care, says Ann Söderström, director of health and medical care in a statement press.

The Västra Götaland region writes that “good capacity” to care for patients in need of care, but also describes that the burden on staff is great.

– We all need help to stop the spread of infection, says Ann Söderström.

New rise in Sahlgrenska

Late last week, Per Albertsson, a pandemic coordinator at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, reported that the hospital was in a plateau phase with signs of slow decline. But in recent days, the pressure on healthcare has mounted again in Gothenburg.

On Tuesday, 114 patients with covid-19 are treated at Sahlgrenska, which is the highest number since June. Since Thursday, the number of patients at the hospital has increased by 30.

Two weeks before Christmas, there is concern in hospitals that the number of patients will continue to increase until then, which would mean that more health personnel would have to work.

The spread of infection flattens

On the other hand, the rate of increase in the number of confirmed cases of the disease has slowed down. Last week 4,471 cases were discovered in the region, 107 more than the previous week. At the same time, it is a bit lower compared to week 47.

– We still have many new confirmed cases, but we see a flattening and sharp increase rate that we no longer have, says Thomas Wahlberg, infection control doctor at Västra Götaland, in the press release.

In the region, the local general council applies until December 13, Lucia. Thereafter, the national councils will come into effect during the Christmas weekend, which will be presented by the Swedish Public Health Agency this week.

– It is still as important as before to abstain from parties, Advent coffee, Lucia celebrations and the like. It’s important that you don’t relax now, says Thomas Wahlberg.
