Notice of participation in the Ski Tour may be delayed until Christmas.
Until then, the skiers of the national ski team have to settle for the emergency solution: overhead for training days and a hot internal competition.
– We think about both sprinting and distance in Östersund, says national team manager Anders Byström.
New days, new meetings, new messages.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the International Ski Federation, Fis, appears to be willing to state that the original plan for the Tour de Ski is being kept despite requests from several leading nations.
Swedish national team manager Anders Byström believes this is an expected message. It will not be decided on Tuesday whether Sweden will send a team to the competition.
– We did not make any decisions on Tuesday, it will take several weeks, he says.
The spread of infection determines
A decisive factor in how the Swedish team’s medical team will reason is the spread curve of the crown in Switzerland and Italy, the host countries of the Tour de Ski.
– We hope the infection goes down. It will be key for us to find a solution that means that we as a team can be isolated throughout the journey, says Anders Byström.
According to the director of the national team, decisions may be delayed until Christmas week.
– There are still a few weeks there, he says.
To compensate the skiers and keep the competition nervous, the Swedish Ski Federation has an emergency solution.
Economic compensation
On the one hand, runners are compensated.
– We offer cyclists their own training days at our expense, says Anders Byström.
He confirms that discussions on pure financial compensation are also ongoing, several of the riders could have been involved and battled for podium spots and major prize money in the coming weekends.
This is welcomed by cyclists.
– It would have been really nice if they could have come with some support for us, Jonna Sundling tells Sportbladet.
Competition in Östersund
On Monday, the management of the national team also discussed an internal competition plan. Now there are many indications that there will be a more extensive competition in Östersund the weekend before Christmas, when the World Cup in Dresden is decided.
Already this weekend, several skiers from the Swedish team met in Östersund, but the competition before Christmas will be more extensive.
– We will go more offensively in this competition, we will plan it properly and we hope to be able to broadcast it on television. It will be competitions for two days in any case, but we must make sure to follow the restrictions. It won’t be a great weekend that they drove in Norway, says Anders Byström.
