Restaurants, cultural life and sports are closing again in much of Denmark, due to the increase in crown figures. Students in fifth grade and up will receive distance education.

Denmark is extending the crown restrictions they have had, so they now apply throughout the winter. This means, among other things, that the population limit is still 10 people, also at Christmas. This was announced today by the government and the National Board of Health at a press conference.

– This time we have the season against us. Unfortunately, the authorities’ assessment is that January and February can be very difficult months in this global pandemic. That is why we are extending the restrictions until February 28, says Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

Denmark is now considerably tightening its restrictions in 38 municipalities in the country, including Copenhagen and its environs and Aarhus and Odense. In them, the restaurants will close and will only be able to offer take away food, cultural life such as theaters and cinemas will be closed, as well as gyms and other sports.

In the 38 municipalities, students from the fifth year onwards must also move on to distance education until the beginning of January.

The new restrictions apply as of Wednesday.

Denmark has registered 2,046 new cases of infection in the last 24 hours. The incidence rate for the last two weeks is almost 350 per 100,000 inhabitants.

328 people are hospitalized and authorities expect the number to rise to more than 400 next week.

– The epidemic does not give up, says Health Minister Magnus Heunicke.

– But we can get through this safely. Remember the vaccine is on the way. But they will be tough months.
