The mutated mink crown is rising in line with the new record numbers.
Denmark is now shutting down much of the country, for the rest of the year.
– We risk the epidemic breaking out, says Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
The crown figures in Denmark are growing. Sunday’s 1,745 new cases were a new 24-hour record and the number of people in the hospital has risen to 302 patients. The Danish Statens Serum Institut predicts that 4,000 new people will be infected per day until Christmas if the spread continues at the same rate, reports TV2.
During a press conference, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is now presenting a series of new measures that will halt the spread of the virus.
Restaurants, bars, gyms, cinemas and theaters will be closed as of Wednesday in 38 municipalities. Copenhagen, Århus and Odense are on the list of municipalities that will not have a life in pubs or restaurants until January 3.
“Cold months ahead”
In the same municipalities, students from the fifth year onwards are sent home and have an extended Christmas leave.
– Today’s messages are disappointing for many. We have cold months ahead and now it is with new restrictions, says Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during a press conference and continues:
– The pressure of infection in Denmark is too high and the increase we have seen is worrying. We need to have better control before Christmas. We risk the epidemic breaking out in January and February.
The maximum number of people that can meet is still ten, even during Christmas. Existing national restrictions will be extended until February 28.
On Friday, the area around Copenhagen rose to the risk level four out of five levels on the covid scale for the first time.

Antiviral pedestrian streets
The Danes already woke up today to the recently introduced measures. One of the perhaps most famous shopping streets in the world, Ströget in Copenhagen, is one-way from today, along with other pedestrian streets across the country.
This is so that Christmas shoppers can meet as few people as possible and thus reduce the risk of becoming infected and contagious.
To this day, even large grocery stores in Denmark can have only one-way aisles.
The mink crown is increasing among humans
At the same time, news is coming in that an increasing proportion of corona infection among Danes comes from mink, according to SSI, the Danish Statens Serum Institut.
Aftonbladet has previously reported on the mutated mink variant of covid-19, which among other things made Denmark decide to kill millions of minks.
Mink infection is proving to be higher in humans than previously thought. Among people found to be infected with corona in North Jutland, for example, the proportion of mink corona cases increased from 17 percent at week 44 to 31 percent at week 47.
In southern Denmark, the proportion of mink infection in corona-positive people has increased from 11% at week 46 to 21% at week 47.
Tyra Grove Krause, an infection epidemiologist and department head at SSI, says in a press release that they are now taking a closer look at the spread of different types of viruses.
A total of 90,603 people have been reported infected with corona in Denmark, and 885 people have died.
