A long and successful career is over. After the games in Malmö FF, Basel and Anderlecht, Behrang Safari is now putting its shoes on the shelf.
He does so after winning his eleventh league title, his fourth at the Allsvenskan.
Behrang Safari started his football career in Lund, but came to Malmö FF when he was 16 years old. When the Lennart Johansson trophy was to be lifted after the match against Östersund, he was pushed to the front of the line to send him to heaven along with team captain Anders Christiansen.

After the medal ceremony and the raising of trophies, Safari was honored with a very special ceremony. All MFF teammates and leaders gathered in the middle of the field as the stadium’s giant screens displayed images from Safari’s long run and greetings from people who meant a lot during it, and to whom Safari meant a lot.
– There is nothing wrong with Markus Rosenberg but I have had the privilege of playing with the two best Swedish footballers, says Argentine superstar Walter Samuel, who played with Behrang Safari in Basel and with Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Inter.
– I just want to say hello and congratulations on a fantastic race. Thank you for making my life better after all the years you have given to FC Basel and its fans. I always enjoyed watching you play and we met on many occasions, says tennis star Roger Federer, who is a fan of Basel.
Safari: “It was a sick trip”
It was an excited Behrang Safari who took the microphone as his wife, children and dog entered the field.
– It was a sick trip. It all started here in Malmö, like a dream. I never thought I would take my football this far. I really enjoyed every second, Safari says.
How did it feel to be a substitute in the 61st minute?
– It was very hard. It was a lot of emotion. But it’s also fun to play soccer. I felt good when I walked in and could feel the ball.
– There have been many emotions this year. I just wanted to enjoy being a footballer.
Is quitting smoking still the right decision?
– It’s the right decision. It was nice to finish with a gold in the Swedish Championship.
How did you feel watching all the tribute videos after the game?
– It was special to see that he touched people inside and outside the plane. I have tried to spread joy throughout my career and this was proof that I have arrived.

The Ivana Safari tribute was the most significant.
– For my wife to stand in line and make a video, I didn’t think she would. What he said was accurate. But everyone was fine. For real.
The most unexpected thing was Roger Federer’s.
– He was a great Baselfan and he was in many of our matches, so I met him several times. An extremely great personality, a great man, and an even better athlete. It was nice to see that it could also convey some love.
