North of Scania | Helsingborg said a nice goodbye

Falkenbergs FF’s first attempt at the Allsvenskan was three years (2014-16). This time the team is leaving after only two seasons.

As usual, FFF and Helsingborg follow each other in the series change. Two years ago, they both cheered. Now it’s depressing.

– It’s a void now. It seems like we’ve had margins against us all season and we haven’t been good enough in crucial situations. Today’s game shows what the whole season has been like, says Falkenberg team captain Calle Johansson.

The team had needed a win in the last game to have a chance to save themselves in a qualifying spot. Despite a dream start with Tobias Englund 1-0 after just over a minute, the match, like so many times, slipped away from the yellow jerseys.

“Falkenberg rises again”

John Chibuike admitted that it gave Falkenberg hope when he made it 2-2 with 20 minutes to go.

But Jacob Bergström decided for Mjällby in the 90th minute when he scored his second goal.

Johansson Street tries to see a positive future in times of adversity.

– After a year in the Superettan where everyone joins forces and pulls in the same direction, I am convinced that Falkenberg will return to retake, he tells Dplay.

This year’s newcomer Mjällby AIF, on the other hand, has reason to rejoice. Thanks to the finish with five wins in a row, the team finally topped IFK Norrköping on the table.

Fifth place and 47 points recorded exceed the 2010 result. Mjällby then finished sixth with 43 points.

– It is a fantastic season that the boys have done. We have broken every conceivable record. 47 points… I don’t think anyone had believed it before the season. Neither do I. It’s huge for a newcomer, coach Marcus Lantz tells Dplay, trying to explain the success factors:

– We have probably been quite clear about what we wanted to do from the beginning. I think everyone has known what to do in their roles. And the season started well in the cup when we beat the Swedish champion Djurgården. It gave him confidence and then he has continued. We have never thought so much without believing in what we have worked with.

“They have chosen a different track”

The successful coach is now leaving the club after just one season.

– If there is ever a time to stop, it is probably now, at the top, says Marcus Lantz to Dplay and continues:

– The club has decided that they will go a different path, and I have to accept it. I’m not hurting Mjällby. We have had a very good collaboration during the year. Our President Magnus Emeus and Sporting Director Hasse Larsson have supported me one hundred percent. But they want Mjällby to look different in 2021. And they want to do it with another coach. Then it will be just like that.
