Santa’s Forest in Landvetter spreads the Christmas vibe

For the second year in a row, a homemade wooden sign has been placed along the hiking trail in Skalmeredsskogen.

“Santa’s Forest in Skalmered” is engraved with a lighted pen.

The area is a stone’s throw from Landvetter Airport, where seven million people pass during a typical year.

This year, that number has dropped dramatically, but that hasn’t stopped several travelers from the North Pole from visiting the forest.

Among conifers and fir trees, Santa stands on a rock and greets passersby. A Santa Claus sits comfortably with his back to a tree stump and laughs. A Santa Claus appears to have a bad back, possibly after a long period of work in a home office, and is leaning against a collection of moss-covered branches.

A little further away is a new sign with the number 62 hanging from two hooks – there are so many elves that they have so far been noticed by forest walkers and elf hunters.

After documenting plot number 37, GP meets local resident Anita, who is also in recognition of the plot along with the dog Bea.

– It’s very cozy. Our own, little plot path. We usually go here every day, says Anita.

The forest has also become a snack bar in the area, where no one seems to know who is behind the initiative.

– It was probably a neighbor who had found 54 pieces. But it varies every time I think.

Isn’t this the first year the Santas appear?

– No, last year it was the same. However, it’s a lot of fun being followed, he says.

Quiet from the airport

Here and there more posters appear with curiosities about the little elves.

They don’t grow more than 15 centimeters long, but what do you do when they’re seven times stronger than ordinary people?(View image.)

A new sign says that elves prefer to stay in the shadows, watching people from a distance. Reasonable, given the times.

During the half hour it takes the GP to complete the hike, not a single engine noise is heard in the surroundings.

Instead, it’s a peaceful, flightless tranquility, a rarer feeling today, that hugs Santa’s forest in Skalmered.
