The boy left a house in the Hjortsberg district shortly after midnight. When he did not return home, the police were alerted.
Police are handling the case as a missing person and currently do not suspect any crime.
– We have no idea what could have happened. He did nothing extraordinary in this direction and was going home, says Evelina Olsson, a press spokeswoman for the southern police region.
The boy is around 1.75 tall and blond with a slim physique. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing jeans. It is unclear what he was wearing on his upper body, possibly a jacket and shoes were missing. He shouldn’t have had his cell phone with him when he left home.
The police are looking now from different sectors of society and their environment, even on the ground. The Swedish Armed Forces are involved in the search, as are dog patrols and police on horseback. The police helicopter was also at the scene.
– The helicopter hasn’t been able to work for parts of the day due to fog and it’s dark now, so I don’t think it’s up, says Evelina Olsson.
At the same time, the police constantly receive new leads. These are people who have seen someone who looks like the child or who have found objects that may belong to him.
– We continue to accept tips with gratitude. Often times, these are tips that guide us forward on matters like this. No tip is too small, we keep track of everyone.
The police urge everyone who live in and around Ljungby to check their plots or immediate area, for example, you can go an extra round if you are out with the dog.
NGOs such as Missing People also participate in the application.
– It’s a great turnout. I think we are up to 500-600 people on our side. It’s probably one of the biggest searches I’ve ever been on, says Ann-Louise Gustafsson, operations manager for the Missing Persons page search effort.
Police hope to continue the search throughout the night.
– There are still many resources, we are working tirelessly on the case. There is no indication that we are narrowing down the search overnight.
