Pole vault star Armand Duplantis has a super week under his belt. In Sweden, he has managed to win the Bragdguldet and is named athlete of the year, on Saturday the International Athletics Federation of World Athletics voted him male athlete of the year.
Duplantis broke two world records (617 and 618) during the 2020 indoor season and in September he also broke Sergei Bubka’s outdoor record, when he broke 615 in Rome. This week he has received several awards for his dream grades.
On Tuesday, Duplantis won Sweden’s best sport award, Bragdguldet, for its super year. Two days later, he was named Athlete of the Year in the country and on Saturday the next award arrived.
The International Athletics Federation named the 21-year-old “male athlete of the year.”
– I just wanted to show the world what I could do and show who I was with good results and I got very good performances, especially indoors, commented the Swede in a press release.
His parents were also noticed by the union. Greg and Helena Duplantis were named “Coach of the Year”.
– So well deserved, wrote the area on Twitter after the message.
Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas was in turn named “female athlete of the year.” The three-step jumper broke the old world record by seven centimeters in February, when she jumped 15.43 in Madrid.
– I did not expect this. This victory means a lot to me and to everyone who works with me, Rojas was happy.
