Norway had seven consecutive World Cup relay victories.
But at Kontiolax, Sweden achieved their first victory on the women’s side in ten years.
– It’s magic, says Mona Brorsson through tears.
After the successful start of the season, Sweden were favorites in the relay. The Swedish team are also off to a good start. Johanna Skottheim missed two shots on the standing shot, but was still up on the change.
– We had some incredibly good skis today. It felt almost unfair to the other countries when I came down. I think I do a good competition so I’m happy with my distance, says Skottheim to SVT.
Norway fired already in the first leg and after the second, France, Sweden, Germany, Ukraine and Italy were in the top five. Mona Brorsson had to use an extra shot horizontal and one vertical and switched as second, nine seconds behind France.
Öberg superior in goal
Elvira Öberg was also allowed to use extra shots, but still switched to her older sister Hanna Öberg in the lead, eleven seconds ahead of France, 33 ahead of Italy and 45 ahead of Germany.
Öberg fired squarely on the horizontal shot, but missed one on the other. However, it didn’t matter. France also blocked and Öberg was able to start on the final lap with a 20-second lead.
No one could threaten and Sweden won against France and Germany.
– We finally reached the top, it’s magical, says Brorsson.
– It really is a team victory, says Hanna Öberg.
The last time Sweden took a victory on the women’s side at the World Cup was on January 6, 2011 when Helena Ekholm, Anna Carin Zidek, Jenny Jonsson, Anna Maria Nilsson
