Just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, the police received a call.
A man called him and told him that in Uddevalla he had arrested a motorist with a blue light device on the grill claiming to be a civilian policeman.
– He asked the driver for identification, says Tony Bengtsson, Uddevalla municipal policeman, who previously also spoke about the incident with Bohusläningen.
The police then rushed to the scene, at the same time that a black Volvo S60 of an older model without a license plate was alerted.
– The patrol goes out and drives around and then meets the car in Torp. They start a sequel to stop him. The car starts towards the center of Uddevalla and goes very fast, says Tony Bengtsson.
I tried to drag the car
After the car made a full turn and returned towards Torp and exited on the old E6, the police considered that it was not possible to hold due to the speeds, that the danger was too great.
A moment later, the police saw the car again, after which they tried to stop the vehicle with a turn. Even though the Volvo suffered sheet metal damage, it later managed to drive from there.
Just two weeks ago, a similar incident occurred in Uddevalla, when another motorist was stopped by a false civilian police officer.
The motorist later got rid of his ATM card.
That is why the Bohuslän police are now coming out and warning.
– We do not know the reason for the incident on Wednesday night. That is why we want to go out to the media to help us get in touch with the observations, if they have seen something, if they know what a car is. This is far from good, trust in the police is extremely important, says Municipal Police Tony Bengtsson.
There may be more vulnerable
Another group of criminals involved in stopping cars are the so-called highway pirates. These people usually pretend to have problems with their car, which is parked on the side of the road, and appeal to the vehicles passing by on the road. The purpose is to cheat or commit crimes against those who stay.
Christer Fuxborg, the police spokesman in the West Region, says fake police are worse:
– They pretend to be an authority figure who must provide security and trust. This is hurting our business. It’s really bad, he says.
At the same time, the police do not see it as unlikely that there will be more victims than the two cases in the area they are aware of so far.
– There may be more that have been arrested, but that it was thought that it was a genuine civil police and therefore it was not reported. We really want those who have had a hard time to report.
The police also want to send a call:
If you stay, ask for identification.
– The advice to people who are arrested is to stay, because it is a crime if they do not do so, but ask to see an identification. If the cop doesn’t make it, it’s something of a mystery, says Tony Bengtsson.
Now a crime coordinator has been tasked with examining whether there are more similar cases.
