Ball nose player to hospital after big bang

Bollnäs band talent Oskar Westh was rushed to hospital after sustaining a serious injury in a tackle by Motala’s Anders Persson at the series’ elite meeting in Bollnäs. There was only a minute of extra time left when Westh fell and hit his head on the ice.

– Oskar flies back with no hands and is already unconscious in the explosion, says Andreas Westh, father of Oskar Westh and assistant coach in Bollnäs, to Radiosporten.

Westh, 20, sped the ball into Motala’s midfield when Anders Persson ran in and stopped right in front of him. Westh didn’t get a chance to parry the blow and slammed into Persson’s back and fell backward. Persson had to come off the ice with a tough match penalty.

– He (Persson) is of course very sad that it was as powerful a blow as it was. It was not his intention to hurt anyone, he is a player who is rarely sent off and who has never been close to something like that, Motala coach Mattias Sjöholm tells Radiosporten.

– I don’t understand how you can do something like that, it’s probably the worst thing I’ve seen in bandy, says Andreas Westh.

After an hour of interruption of the game, when the injured was treated and an ambulance was waiting, the game could end. But there was not much to play in the last minute. All the players stood still on the ice waiting for the final signal, reports helahälsingland.se. Bollnäs won 2-1.

The status of Westh’s injury is unknown.
