It was on Sunday night that a 41-year-old man was found in an apartment in the Haninge municipality in Stockholm. The man is suspected of having been detained by his mother, who was arrested on Sunday for probable cause on suspicion of unlawful deprivation of liberty, as well as serious bodily injury and serious bodily injury.

According to the prosecutor, there are many indications that the man has been detained in the apartment for 25-30 years.

Wednesday he was interrogated the mother and the 41-year-old man. At the first questioning, the woman denied the crime, but it is unclear how she reacted to the allegations during questioning on Wednesday, as the lawyer appointed as her public defender does not want to comment.

In the late afternoon, the Public Ministry announced that the detention had been lifted and that the woman had been released.

– After the man was questioned this afternoon and based on what has emerged in the investigation during these days, the suspicions against the suspected woman have weakened. “I have judged that she should not be asked to arrest her and release her,” said chamber prosecutor Emma Olsson according to a press release.

At the same time, the investigation continues and criminal suspicions remain.

– But they have weakened and I judge that the woman cannot negatively influence the investigation. Next, we will investigate circumstances that go back further in time.

Was the man’s sister who found him in the apartment last Sunday. He went home after learning that his mother was in the hospital.

When he saw his brother in the dark and dirty apartment, he recognized her immediately.

According to the sister, he was in very poor physical condition and was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery.

– Right now I think he is very traumatized by everything that has happened. But I still think that for the first time he comes to feel affection, a little warmth, that people care about him, says the sister who longs to meet her brother.

The sister is also convinced that the brother is now relieved when he leaves the apartment in which he spent so much time.

– I’ve been waiting for you for a long, long, long time. Just seeing that he was happy when he saw me … Seeing his reaction when he saw me was amazing. And I long for her to come home to us.

How the mother could Isolating your child for so long is a question that both the police and the municipality are trying to answer. The man’s sister says that she has warned several times that something was wrong in the apartment.

The man's sister says she has repeatedly warned that all was not well at her brother's house.

On Tuesday, Haninge Municipality contacted the police, says the municipality’s press officer, Håkan Filipsson.

– We have activated several people who will help with police problems. Our ambition is to be as transparent as possible, says Håkan Filipsson.

The 41-year-old man is, according to information, has had contact with both the authorities and health care over the years. Thus, the obvious question becomes even bigger: How could society have overlooked this alleged negligence for so many years?

Linda Törngren, group manager in Stockholm South’s close relations crimes section, who is handling the case, says the case requires large resources and four officers are working full-time on the case.

On Wednesday, the 41-year-old son was questioned.

– This case must have been going on for a long time and it will take several interrogations to analyze everything. But somewhere you have to start and then you can feel: how much energy and the person can say right now, says Linda Törngren.

Even the suspicious woman, the man’s mother, is interrogated. But Linda Törngren does not want to go into how she reacts to the accusations.

Currently, the investigation is focused on suspicions against the mother, but the police will also analyze whether others, such as social services and schools, have learned of the man’s existence, says Linda Törngren.

– According to the information we have now, it has been happening since the plaintiff was young. Therefore, we need to do a more complete study of living conditions, such as going back to school. It is clear that it makes a big difference if a person is of legal age when the crime is committed, as long as they are under 18, they have a guardian who will take care of the care. There is a higher penalty value for locking up a child and the length of the lockdown is also important, he says.

Mother and son It hardly appears in any public record, but an administrative court ruling from ten years ago shows how the mother was the child’s representative in a case against the Swedish Social Security Agency. He was then awarded sick pay, but after three years the authority would re-examine his ability to work. The mother appealed the decision to the administrative court and demanded that it be modified because “she cannot face any contact and investigation for her mental disability. Everything that is investigated must pass through his mother ”.

DN has contacted a teacher at the high school where the man went.

– I’m desperate and questioning. We always take absences very seriously, we would call parents directly if students did not show up, and we could even make home visits if things did not improve. I don’t understand how it could have fallen through the safety nets. The questions you ask yourself are: how could that happen? Could I have done something?
